Endorsement is not the visa. It's the permission to apply for the visa. Here is the full process from endorsement letter to visa in hand — what to do and in what order.
Getting your endorsement letter is a significant milestone. It means the assessment body has confirmed that you meet the standard for Global Talent. But it's not the end of the process — it's permission to apply for the visa itself.
Here is exactly what happens next.
You'll receive your endorsement letter by email and/or in your application portal. The letter will:
Critical: the endorsement is time-limited. You must submit your Home Office visa application within the validity period stated in the letter, typically 3 months. If you miss this window, you'll need to reapply for endorsement.
The visa application is made through the standard UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) online portal, separate from the endorsement application.
What you'll need:
The Home Office application is typically more administrative than the endorsement application. You're not being assessed again — the endorsement is proof you meet the criteria. The Home Office is checking that you're eligible to enter and stay in the UK (no disqualifying criminal record, no deception in previous visa applications, etc.).
You'll need to visit a UK Visa and Immigration Service application centre (UKVCAS) for biometric enrolment. These are in major cities globally. Book an appointment early — peak periods (spring and autumn) can have waits of two to four weeks.
After biometrics, processing typically takes two to three weeks for standard service, or three to five business days for priority service (at additional cost).
If you're already in the UK on another visa (student, Skilled Worker, etc.), you apply to switch to Global Talent visa from within the UK. You'll need to visit a UKVCAS service point for biometrics. Processing times are similar.
Your current visa must be valid at the time of the switch application — don't let it expire while waiting.
Global Talent visa holders now typically receive an eVisa rather than a physical visa stamp. You'll be able to manage your visa online and share your status digitally with employers. A Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) may still be issued depending on the application route.
The visa duration is typically tied to your endorsement period: 3 years for Exceptional Talent, 5 years for Exceptional Promise. After this period, you apply for an extension or for ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) if you meet the continuous residence requirement.
